If there’s one thing that being in Think Tank has taught me it’s that people can maintain hope it what seems like the most hopeless situation. People in Think Tank are guys who have almost all been condemned to die in prison and who have various threads of legal hope but not a whole lot. They’re essential people who the world has given hope on. They haven’t given up hope on the world, which I find kind of incredible. Whenever there are moments when I start to feel hopeless, I think about those people who are serving life and spend seemingly all their time thinking about how we can change not only the criminal justice system, but empower people in the community and address the schools in Philly. I feel that the men at Graterford spend just as much if not more time thinking about what needs to happen for young people in Philly to get support and the things they need, than what needs to happen with the issues that are affecting their ability to get out of prison. I feel like if they have hope then what right do I have not to.
